Nicki goes Wild, She's the best! | |
Nicki Minaj's debut album "Pink Friday" is a work of pure brilliance. Nicki has just the right balance of crisp R&B/pop tunes with harsh rap tracks. While it is definitely more pop than expected, Nicki's talent is obvious in every track on the album. Additionally, the collaborations promote the talents of both artists on the tracks. Highlights include Roman's Revenge (the phenomenal rap-off with Eminem), Fly (the inspiring soon-to-be hit with current It-girl Rihanna), Save Me, Right Thru Me and Your Love. Lowlights are Check It Out, the abysmal will.i.am track that should never have been put on this album. Though Nicki is the by far the best thing about it. | |
I think where Nicki Minaj shines is definitely front and centre. I too didn't like her too much when all she did was provide a rap verse on an average at best track. She's come up with some great lyrics on many of the songs, let's see if she fades away after a short time in the spotlight, or can last the distance like Eminem has. Her track with him, Roman's Revenge would have to be the highlight, along with Your Love and Fly. Surprisingly great album, very solid. | |

great album! her rap is very good love her style and she raps better than many of her male counterparts. she even shines on the slower r&b numbers. the only downside (and what holds her off from getting a six) is the way she needs to constantly remind us that she is the greatest. i know this is a feature of the persona she is trying to create but i think we can do without the reminding. she's definitely the strongest female rapper out there at the moment, heck, i would probably go as far as saying she is the strongest female rapper of all time (sorry lil kim and foxy brown!) highlights include your love, roman's revenge, fly and right thru me. deluxe edition which included the massively awesome super bass bumps this up to a six. an album that's still great to listen to more than six months after it's release Laatst gewijzigd: 30/07/2011 07:15 | |
I still can not believe this hasnt cracked the ARIA charts yet, it's an amazing album. I watched a documentary on her last night, and the things she has been through, she has definetly come out the other side with this album. She has this special sound that no one else has. Highlights are: Right Thru Me, Romans Revenge, Did It On Em, Fly, Your Love, I'm The Best, Dear Old Nicki & Moment 4 Life but I love them all. The lowlight is that Check It Out should not be on the album, she is in like a minute of the song, her part being the best, I like the song but it really shouldnt be on the album. A terrible album, and yet, better than I was expecting it to be. There are several listenable songs, and even one good one. Dear Old Nicki is good. The major problem I have with her, aside from her annoying voice and vocal style, is that so many of her songs feature her ranting about how she's the best, when she has nothing to back it up with. Show, don't tell. Show, and you won't need to constantly tell! And Roman's Revenge is one of the worst things I've ever listened to. | |

Actually a decent album. A nice listen despite some flaws. A good debut LP from Nicki and her career looked quite promising until she released Pink Friday - Roman's Revenge and went a gigantic leap backwards. Would like to see something like this released in future. | |
Certainly not unmemorable for the most part. A problem I have though is that she frequently rests on the same ideas constantly throughout the album. Namely there's a recurring theme of putting 'someone' down as they are clearly not at her awesome level. And then she relies far too much on the trick of chucking in a related word to serve as a punchline because there's no proper joke there. It might sound clever, but it's really not hard, Mohs scale. But still, this comes in a dark era for pop production, and even has J. R. Rotem on board. Nonetheless, it holds up pretty well with that. And of course I have to give Nicki some credit as when she actually tries, she does deliver, she just needs to work on the lyrics and not reference the NBA so many times. |
