She can't release a good or listenable song since 2012. This is just pure crap, she is again trying to ride on the coolest trend of the moment.
1*, and only because I cannot go lower.
What the fuck was that. Pure shit and the fact Australia still buys her music this much in 2016 is a disgrace. A contender for worst hit of the year for sure and Drake doesn't make things any better either. Add to the seemly endless pile of rubbish she never seems to stop putting out.

Work, work, work, work.

▒ ┌∩┐Goedkope (◣_◢) Shit┌∩┐ ☺!!!
I think this has some interesting quirks in it and I like Drake's verse. Far from her (and his) best but there is far worse out there. Laatst gewijzigd: 25/04/2016 07:09
I waiting more. | |
Laatst gewijzigd: 11/07/2016 16:19
4.4* | |
However, With 'Work' and this subsequent 'ANTI' era, I feel she has pushed this 'carefree,' or rather 'careless,' attitude to such an extreme that it comes across as sloppy, reckless, or even negligent. The laziness and sloppiness of the repeated syllables in the chorus is easily a turn off if you don't understand why it is so. And this laziness extends much further than that: simple production that doesn't develop, the melodic flutey hooks that really feel tacked on, lyrical verses that feels like she's rambling, a completely nonsensical autotuned pre-chorus that comes across that Rihanna is just making up something on the spot and then that chorus. It is something only Rihanna could pull off this successfully although it still borders on pretension. I want to make clear that this is really a concept that I really don't support, and it feels like a huge slap in the face to other hard-working artists to make an era conceptually based off the idea of not working at all, despite Rihanna rambling on to tell us to do so. But as I said before, she gets away with it. This embodies everything I don't like about Rihanna, but it somehow comes together in a non-offensive way to my ears and I don't mind it.
It could have been good, but instead it's a half-assed effort.
I did like this the first time I heard it but it's really grown on me in the last week (and especially since the video's were released) and now I really love it. There's something about the [s]lazy[/s] laid-back vibe that is really endearing about this and it really stands up with most of Rihanna's other lead singles for me. I absolutely adore the second verse too. Will hopefully continue to grow on me even more.
Insufferable garbage | |
Not garbage. | |
Fijn plaatje | |
The song is good, but she did better than this one
Of je hier van houd of niet. Je gaat de heledag work work work work work work. Overal hoor je work work work work work work.
Annoying as hell! | |

goed nummer; | |
For starters, it is a shame that Rihanna's managers booked her in for the studio right after her dentist appointment. Or maybe they booked her in right after some sort of reconstructive facial surgery, but then the surgery ran a bit longer than it was supposed to, so the surgeons quickly finished it up without their usual attention-to-detail, meaning that once Rihanna arrived in the studio, her jaw was not correctly in place, but she decided to power through it anyway, and the studio was happy enough with the final result. For real though, I do understand that she is speaking some sort of creole that I am not familiar with, but that does not excuse just how bad it sounds. Sure, you can sing in another language, but that doesn't change the fact (IMO, not an actual fact :P) that it doesn't sound good. The beat too, argh. I mean, it's almost non-existent, and when I do hear it, it's pretty limp and not something I can get down to. And, from reports I've heard, the producers hadn't even finished with the beat before Rihanna just wanted to sing over it, which just seems a little shit to be honest. It seems like musicians don't even have to try anymore, but can instead create these half-formed songs, then release it to the public, and then everyone just seems to be okay with that. I mean, if you're going to make a song like this, there needs to be some life in it. I think that is why I like "Panda" in the way I do. There's actually quite a few similarities between that and this (not understanding the lyrics being one thing), but at least the beat and vocal delivery in "Panda" come at you with some energy and force, making it a real trap banger. This though doesn't have enough of that to make any impact on me. Oh yeah, and Drake's on this too, and he doesn't do all that much. He references his Meek Mill rap beef in a couple of lines, but other than that, there's not too much memorable there in that regard. I'm actually getting a little sick of the Drake over-saturation to be perfectly honest. This song (in terms of the album), to me, is just the personification of the idea of throwing a whole bunch of shit on the wall just to see what sticks. In the time that she has been around as a mainstream pop star, the time gap between "Unapologetic" and "Anti" is the longest gap between album releases, because before then, she was pretty much releasing albums on a yearly basis. On "Anti", it seems she wanted to come back with something a little different from the usual pop shtick, so her team threw out a bunch of left-field sounds and ideas, hoping that at least one of them would become a hit. And, amazingly enough, that is what she got here. I just find it baffling that this was able to reach number-one in the US, let alone spend 9 weeks there. It doesn't really even sound like something that is a hit or should be a hit. I'm notching that all up to name value and name value only, because if you had two completely different names attached to this project, I'm 100% confident this would not have struck it big. Look, kudos to Rihanna for wanting to try something new at least, but while what I've heard from this album so far sounds different from her previous material, if this is the kind of music we're going to be getting as a result, I can't see myself listening to her music any further.
And yes it goes without saying that I'm totally here for Rihanna's patois. I don't know if it's intentional, but it really brings across a feeling of increasing lethargy brought on by the taxing labour of said 'work'. Imagine that, a sex song that doesn't remotely try to glamourise it! Oh and Drake's here too, mostly for the memes really. I can't hear 'I spilled all my emotions tonight (complete with the totally Drake 'I'm sorry')' without thinking of the 'How can I hold all these feels' image. 'If you had a twin, I would still choose you' is also an incredibly dumb way to say that you like someone for their personality. But hey, a bop is a bop. Laatst gewijzigd: 10/05/2017 20:04
I like the dancehall beats but Rih's voice is hard to understand what she's saying sometimes...
Drake shows up for the third verse, doing Drake things and boy he's a lot more boring than he was 5 years ago. I'm wondering if guest features like these are set up to make Rihanna's presence more compelling by making theirs so easily demolishable. It was a needed move back when Umbrella came out, when she was only 19 and had yet to make a name for herself as a performer, but now it should be fairly obvious that she's one of the most distinct pop vocalists of this century, which is why every song on the radio sounds like Rihanna featuring Rihanna. A well-earned bop regardless, though. Laatst gewijzigd: 15/09/2017 13:43
It's catchy, but very repetitive. I can see why there is the hate.

This isn't music. | |
